Dedicated Servers
Dedicated servers are a class of service offered by large data-center providers. It typically consists of a piece of bare-metal hardware backed by all standard datacenter facilities like uninterrupted power, cooling, security and automation. A typical unmanaged server comes with a basic OS setup opened up for further management through remote desktop or secure shell (SSH) endpoints.
Managed Servers
A dedicated server is “managed” when you outsource the management of the rented piece of hardware to the datacenter or hire someone to manage it on your behalf. These days, when high level of automation and connectivity facilities have become a norm, it is not necessary for the “manager” to be within the datacenter. Even though the providers seem sell servers with “management” add-on, the quality of service is often not satisfactory because of high workload per engineer and lack of personalization.
